What are 7 cm AAC blocks used for?
7 cm AAC blocks (20x60x7 cm) are a true 7 cm thickness, not 7.5 cm; they are half a centimeter thinner. They are made by THAICON, Diamond, TPI and Smart Block, weigh about 6.3-6.4 kg each and take 8.33 blocks per m². They usually cost a little less per block than 7.5 cm, which makes them popular on budget-conscious jobs.
Applications and grades
- Interior walls and partitions such as bedrooms, storerooms and bathrooms.
- Home additions, back kitchens and shophouse walls that don't need much sound insulation.
- G4 AAC blocks such as THAICON, TPI and Smart Block for higher compressive strength.
- G2 AAC blocks from Diamond, lighter with better heat insulation.
Benefits of 7 cm AAC blocks
A 7 cm wall is light, fast to lay and saves on both blocks and mortar. Use one thickness for the whole wall; mixing 7 cm with 7.5 cm leaves an uneven face. For more sound or heat insulation choose 10 cm AAC blocks, and tie the wall to columns with AAC wall ties every 2 courses. Thin-bed mortar use is about 1.5 kg/m² (one bag lays about 30 m²).
