What are AAC wall ties used for?

AAC wall ties, or metal straps, are thin perforated steel strips that tie an AAC block wall to concrete columns and beams. A wall that isn't tied to the structure often cracks in a straight line along the column, because the wall and the column move differently. Ties make the wall and the frame work together.

Types and uses

  • Metal strap: fix one end to the column and lay the other in the mortar bed every 2 courses. It replaces rebar dowels, so there is no need to drill the column.
  • Perforated N angle tie to fix the top of the wall to the beam soffit or to tie walls at corners.

Benefits of AAC wall ties

Ties reduce cracks along columns and beams, make the wall stronger against impact and vibration, and are faster than drilling and doweling rebar because they go straight into the mortar bed. Before plastering, add wire mesh over the wall-to-column joint and at door and window frame corners for extra crack control.
