Cement Bonded Particle Board

What happened to Sun Board (ตราพระอาทิตย์) cement board?

Sun Board is the wood-cement board now sold as SCG cement board. It is pressed from wood chips and Portland cement at high pressure, has a smooth cement-grey face, and works for walls, floors and underlay.

What is cement bonded particle board and where is it used?

Cement bonded particle board is made from wood particles mixed with cement and pressed at high pressure. The board is denser and heavier than fiber cement of the same thickness, so it carries load and impact well. The face shows the grey of the cement and works as an exposed, loft-style finish.

Types and applications

• VIVA Board: flat 6-24 mm, HD for wet areas and VIVA Decor wood and stone finishes.
• SCG cement board: 6-24 mm for ceilings, walls and floors, and SCG MegaFlor floor boards with grain or 6-inch grooves.
• Olarn Easy cement board: flat 4-16 mm and 18-20 mm interior floor boards.

Benefits of cement bonded particle board

Strong, impact resistant, holds screws firmly and resists water and termites. It suits mezzanine floors, garage walls and hard-wearing exterior walls, but it is heavier, so the framing must carry the load. For ordinary ceilings choose the lighter fiber cement board.
