What are 20 cm AAC blocks used for?
20 cm AAC blocks (20x60x20 cm) are for buildings that need the highest fire, sound and heat resistance. Each block weighs about 18-19 kg and a wall takes 8.33 blocks per m². A 20 cm Q-CON wall rates about STC 48, and this thickness is usually specified by the engineer or architect.
Applications and grades
- Fire walls, fire-escape stair walls, and plant or electrical rooms.
- Factory, warehouse and industrial walls.
- High sound-insulation walls, such as walls facing a main road or rooms with machinery.
- G2 AAC blocks (Q-CON Extra Cool) or G4 AAC blocks (Q-CON, THAICON, Aerocrete) as the drawings specify.
Benefits of 20 cm AAC blocks
A 20 cm wall is strong and fire resistant yet much lighter than a concrete or clay brick wall of the same thickness, so it reduces structural load. The blocks are heavier, so plan labor and scaffolding, and use a AAC block trowel in the 20 cm size for full mortar coverage. Thin-bed mortar use is about 4.0 kg/m² (one bag lays about 12.5 m²).
