What are 10 cm AAC blocks used for?
10 cm AAC blocks (20x60x10 cm) are thicker than 7.5 cm, so they insulate against sound and heat better. Each block weighs about 9 kg and a wall takes 8.33 blocks per m². A 10 cm Q-CON wall rates about STC 38, which makes this thickness a popular choice for exterior house walls and walls between rooms that need privacy.
Applications and grades
- Exterior walls of houses and townhomes, especially west- and south-facing walls.
- Bedroom walls and party walls between condo or apartment units.
- Bathroom and kitchen walls that need chases for pipes; the block is thick enough to cut a chase.
- G2 AAC blocks (Q-CON Extra Cool) for houses, or G4 AAC blocks (Q-CON, THAICON, Aerocrete) for high-rise.
Benefits of 10 cm AAC blocks
A 10 cm wall is still light and quick to lay, but it insulates noticeably better than 7.5 cm and holds anchors more securely. For even more sound insulation see 15 cm AAC blocks. Diamond, TPI, Smart Block and DURA One make this thickness to order; ask for a price. Thin-bed mortar use is about 2.0 kg/m² (one bag lays about 25 m²).
