CO2 Fire Extinguishers

CO2 fire extinguishers store carbon dioxide as a pressurized liquid. On discharge, it expands into an extremely cold vapor that displaces oxygen and rapidly cools the fire — making it highly effective on Class B fires (flammable liquids like oil, grease, and thinner) and Class C fires (energized electrical equipment). The key advantage: zero residue after use, so there's no secondary damage to equipment and no cleanup.

Common sizes are 5 lb, 10 lb, and 15 lb. Smaller units suit restaurant kitchens, labs, and offices, while larger units are the standard choice for electrical rooms, server rooms, machine control cabinets, print shops, and industrial production areas. Cylinders are made from high-pressure steel or aluminum alloy and fitted with an insulated discharge horn that protects your hand from the extreme cold during use.

A few things to know: CO2 extinguishers don't have a pressure gauge. Check readiness by weighing the cylinder against its stamped weight — if it's lost more than 10%, send it for recharging. Use in adequately ventilated spaces, since CO2 displaces breathable oxygen.
