What types of PVC waterstop are there, and how do you choose one for a concrete joint?
PVC waterstop is a PVC strip embedded in concrete joints to stop water seepage. It is used in dams, weirs, sluice gates, swimming pools, irrigation canals and basements. It comes in two types.
Type | Description | Suited to |
|---|---|---|
No centre hole | Solid strip | Construction joints with little movement; not suitable for joints with large movement |
With centre hole | Stretches and compresses with joint movement | Expansion joints with large movement |
Made to TIS 1239-2537 and ASTM standards. Sample test values: hardness 78 IRHD, tensile strength 19.8 MPa, elongation at break 328%, and weight change of only +0.4% after 48 hours in water at 50 degrees.
