How are post-tensioned slab thickness and column spacing estimated?
Post-tensioned slabs come in two systems, Bonded and Unbonded. They generally suit column spans of 6 m or more. For economy, the edge span should be 0.75-0.80 of the inner span (L), and the cantilever 0.25-0.30 L.
Thickness can be estimated from the span-to-thickness ratio. For example, with an 8 m span a two-way post-tensioned slab is about 8.00/40 = 0.20 m (20 cm) thick, whereas a typical reinforced-concrete flat slab is about 8.00/30 = 0.27 m (27 cm). Slabs can be as thin as 17 cm, depending on the span.

A thinner slab reduces floor-to-floor height and structure weight, which also lowers foundation cost. Because the slab is under constant compression, it resists cracking and reduces water seepage.
