Gypsum Joint Compound & Plaster

Gypsum joint compound and plaster: which one?

Gypsum compounds are used on drywall ceilings and partitions. They spread easily, set faster than cement plaster and sand smooth. There are three kinds by job: joint compound, finishing plaster and adhesive; choose the one that matches the work.

Types and uses

• joint compound with joint tape to cover board joints and screw heads
• finishing plaster to skim a whole ceiling or wall before painting, or to level masonry
• gypsum adhesive to bond board to brick or concrete without framing

Benefits

• Bonds well to board paper and tape, so joints crack less
• Sands to a smooth, primer-ready finish
• Mix to the ratio on the bag and use within the working time
• Interior use only; use cement-based products outdoors or in wet areas
