Questions
How is premixed asphalt used for road repair, and how many bags per square metre?
Premixed asphalt is a cold-mix aggregate already blended with asphalt emulsion. It can be used straight away with no other materials and no heating. It is packed in double-layer plastic bags of 20 kg and used to patch potholes and cracks, and to build footpaths, car parks, speed humps and wheel stoppers. Traffic can use the repair immediately.
The usage rate is about 80 kg, or 4 bags, per 1 sq.m. at a compacted thickness of 5 cm.
- Trim the hole edges vertical and sweep out dust, pebbles, water and oil.
- Fill so the asphalt sits about 2 cm above the original surface. If the hole is deeper than 5 cm, fill with sand or crushed rock until 5 cm deep.
- Compact from the edges toward the centre with a shovel, hoe or plate compactor.
- Seal any unused bag tightly and store it in the shade.
