What Are Lightweight Brick Plaster and Lightweight Brick Mortar?

Lightweight brick plaster is a plaster made specifically for rendering lightweight (AAC) blocks. Its mix differs from regular plaster: cement, sand and performance additives give it properties suited to AAC, such as low weight, strong adhesion to lightweight blocks, crack resistance and fast drying.

Lightweight brick mortar is a specialty masonry mortar made from cement, sand and special additives that reduce its weight while keeping excellent bonding strength. It is around 50% lighter than ordinary masonry mortar, which significantly reduces the load on the structure, and it also absorbs earthquake vibration better than ordinary masonry mortar.

Precautions When Using Lightweight Brick Mortar

• Mix the mortar with water strictly at the specified ratio to get the best performance.
• Stir the mortar thoroughly until it is thick and sticky before use.
• Don't apply the mortar too thick, as it will dry slowly and may crack.
• Let the mortar cure for at least 24 hours before putting it into service so it reaches full strength.

Good to know: Lightweight (AAC) blocks need purpose-made premixed plaster and mortar because they absorb water differently from ordinary concrete blocks, so standard mortar bonds poorly. Using general-purpose premixed mortar for plastering or laying AAC can lead to cracking, so use a mortar made for lightweight blocks, which contains polymer additives for a stronger bond.

How Many Square Meters Does One Bag of Lightweight Brick Plaster Cover?

Lightweight brick plaster usually comes in 40-50 kg bags. Coverage depends on the plaster thickness: at 1 cm thick, one bag covers about 2.5-2.8 m².
