Industrial Belt

What is an industrial belt?

An industrial belt transmits power from a motor to a machine, or carries parts through a plant. Unlike a car belt, it is chosen by section, code and length to match each machine's pulleys. Every belt in this category is made by BANDO, the Japanese belt maker with factories in Thailand.

Types of industrial belts

• V-belts have a trapezoidal section and drive through friction in the pulley groove. They suit pumps, fans, compressors and general machinery, in A, B, C and D sections, plus M, K, double-sided BB and special V-belts such as Power Ace, SP and variable speed belts.
• Timing belts have teeth that mesh with the pulleys for slip-free, synchronized drives, in rubber trapezoidal, STS round-tooth and PU versions.
• Conveyor belts are flat BANDO Sunline belts for moving goods, in F, M and S grades.
• Round belts are circular polyurethane belts for light drives and conveying.

Matching a belt to your machine

Start with the code printed on the old belt. A V-belt code gives the section and the length in inches: B50 is a B section, 50 in long. Use the belt length filter on the V-belt page to find it faster. A timing belt code gives the pitch and length, such as 210XL or S8M 384. If the code has worn off, measure the pulley groove width and depth, then the belt's outside length.

What are the signs of a loose belt?

A loose belt squeals on start-up, lets the machine lose speed, runs hot and wears fast, or leaves rubber dust around the pulleys. Re-tension it to the machine manual. Once it has stretched past adjustment, replace it, and replace multi-belt drives as a full set so each belt shares the load.

How long does a belt last?

There is no fixed life. It depends on load, tension, heat and pulley alignment. Inspect belts at each maintenance interval and replace them when you see cracks on the underside, worn edges or hardened rubber.
