How do you install Smart Board, and with which framing and fixings?

Frame spacing and fixings depend on the board thickness and the job. SCG's countersunk screws drive without pre-drilling, and each joint type has its own filler. Framing, screws and sealants are in cement board installation accessories.

How much load can a Smart Board floor carry?

A 16–18 mm Smart Board floor carries 150–500 kg/m², depending on thickness and joist spacing. Use this table for a first pick, and have an engineer size the actual framing.

Keep point loads under 100 kg on any 10 cm² and avoid floors that stay wet. On runs longer than 6 m, leave a movement joint through the boards and the tiles and seal it with polyurethane. Smart Board is non-combustible to BS 476 Parts 5, 6 and 7. The 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm boards bend to radii of 1, 1.5, 2 and 4 m. An 8 mm Smart Board wall clad on both sides reaches STC 38 and weighs about 30 kg/m² with framing, against about 180 kg/m² for rendered brick.

What is SCG Smart Board and which one should you choose?

Smart Board is SCG's fiber cement board, made from cement, silica sand and cellulose fiber and cured in a high-pressure autoclave to TIS 1427-2561. The name is so well known that many people use it for any brand of cement board. Smart Board comes in 3.5 to 20 mm for ceilings, walls and floors.

Ceiling boards: Smart Board 4 mm and 6 mm in 120x240 and 60x120 cm, plus vented, wood-grain and insect-screen soffit boards.
Wall boards: Smart Board 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm with square or tapered edges, 4-inch grooves and DCOR Rustic wood grain.
Floor boards: Smart Board 15 mm, 16 mm, 18 mm and 20 mm for mezzanines and extensions.
