Joint Compound for Gypsum Board

Joint Compound for Gypsum Board

Joint compound for gypsum board: bed the joint tape, fill tapered joints and cover screw heads on drywall ceilings and partitions for flush, crack-resistant joints. Apply 2-3 coats, let each dry and sand before priming. SCG Easy Plas, Easy Quick and Easy Fix, Gyproc and K Joint.

How to use joint compound on gypsum board

Joint compound fills the joints between gypsum boards and covers screw heads on drywall ceilings and partitions. It works with joint tape bedded in the first coat; on tapered-edge board the finished joint is flush with the sheet and invisible after painting.

Taping steps

  • Fill the joint with a first coat, press the tape into it and smooth it flat
  • Apply a second and third coat, each a little wider, letting each dry
  • Sand smooth, then prime before painting

Benefits

  • Smooth, thin-coat texture that bonds well to board paper
  • Fast-setting products such as Easy Quick speed up the job
  • To skim a whole wall, use finishing plaster instead
  • In bathrooms, use it with moisture-resistant board and let it dry fully before painting
