How to choose cement board and Smart Board flooring
Cement board or Smart Board flooring is a 15-25 mm board laid on steel or timber joists instead of a concrete slab. It is lighter, quicker to install and needs no curing, which makes it popular for mezzanines, attic floors and home extensions. The thicker the board, the more load it carries and the wider the joist spacing the manufacturer's table allows.
Types and applications
- 15 mm and 16 mm boards for light-duty mezzanines and attic floors.
- 20 mm boards, the most popular thickness for house floors, and 24 mm for heavy loads.
- Cement bonded floor boards: VIVA Board, SCG cement board and SCG MegaFlor with grain or grooved faces that can be left exposed.
